With the onset of winter, many of us would be searching for lucrative adventure options and weekend getaways to enjoy snowfall near Delhi.

Here is a list of five exquisite less explored hill stations near Delhi, where you could enjoy the bliss of snowfall from late December to February:

1. Kanatal

Kanatal is a beautiful hill station in the heart of  Uttarakhand.  The layers of snow begin to mesmerize you from late December to February. Temperature goes to as low as one-degree celsius here.

Kanatal lies at a distance of approximately 300 kilometers from Delhi. It would take you around eight to nine hours to reach this beautiful destination.

From Delhi to Haridwar then via Chamba to Kanatal

or Delhi to Mussoorie then via Dhanaulti to Kanatal

Places to visit:

You could camp with your friends to enjoy beautiful views and delicious food. Visit the Tehri Dam, which is built on the confluence of river Bhagirathi and Bhilangana.

Kodai jungle is a beautiful picnic spot where you could trek and enjoy the sight of forests and valleys.

The area around Surkanda Devi Temple would be definitely covered with snow to delight our senses.

2. Mukteshwar

Mukteshwar is another pick to taste the solace of beauty and the carnival of snow. Lying in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand, it is a 9-hour drive from Delhi (approximately 333 kilometers).

Route:

You could drive via Moradabad to reach Mukteshwar, which is the best option to reach the hill station. Kothgodam is the nearest station from Mukteshwar (25 kilometers approximately). You could reach here via Ranikhet Express.

Places to visit:

Mukteshwar is famous for the 350-year-old Mukteshwar Dham, Lord Shiva’s temple in this hill station. It is around 2 kilometers from the city center. You would need to climb a series of steep steps to reach the temple.

Trekkers would love Chauthi Jali, which is an abode of different rocks and adventure activities. Have a look at the beautiful Nanda Devi peak, which is visible from Mukteshwar. It would be a delight for photographers.

3. Prashar lake

Snow camping near Prashar Lake is one of the best things you could do this winter! It is an oval-shaped lake, around 50 kilometers north of Mandi, Himachal Pradesh. It would take around 11 hours to reach your destination from Delhi. Prashal Lake is one of the most beguiling destinations during winter, with snow glistening on the lake from late December to March.

Route:

You could take a bus from Delhi to Kullu and deboard at Mandi. Or you could take a train up to Kanoh railway station and then reach Prashar.

Places to visit:

A  temple dedicated to Sage Prashar lies near the lake. It has a lot of historical significance. There are some small eateries surrounding this place as well.

A two-day trek from Biaggi village would give you complete views of the Dhauladhar and Pir Panjal ranges surrounding this lake.

4.  Kufri

Enjoy snowfall in Kufri, Himachal Pradesh from December to March. This place becomes a charming delight during winters. It takes approximately 8 hours to reach Kufri from Delhi. You can also take a flight to Shimla and then drive to Kufri.

Route:

You could drive via Chandigarh to reach Kufri. Or you can take a train to Ambala Cantt and further hire a personal cab to reach your destination.

Places to visit:

Traverse the Mahausi peak on horseback to get some splendid view of the hill station. The Himalayan National Park would entice you with its amazing variety of flora and fauna.

Skiing in the expansive snow blanket is a must!

5. Jibhi

Less explores, Jibhi is a small hill station that lies on the Chandigarh- Manali highway. It is at a distance of around 60 kilometers from Kullu. It would take around 11 hours to reach Jibhi from Delhi.

Route:

The nearest airport to Jibhi is in Bhuntar district, Kullu. You can also travel by road to Banjar village. Enjoy the view of gigantic peaks with river Beas flowing beneath.

Places to visit:

Jibhi has beautiful meadows and pinewood cottages, which attract a number of tourists. Trek to Chaini village and visit the Shringa Rishi Bagi temple en route. This temple is beautiful and sits in the lap of meadows and orchards. You would get some perfect captures in the vicinity of snow-clad peaks.

Visit the Jalori Pass for some breathtaking views. It remains open throughout the year.
